How to Make Ombre Glitter Vases

In this video by Emilie Lefler, we will learn how to make ombre glitter vases.

This video is short and to the point, which makes it one of my favorite how-to videos.

These are sparkly and absolutely beautiful.

Even though the title says “ombre,” you certainly don’t have to stick to that.

You can use any color you want.

Here, she advises using the lightest color first if you are using non-ombre colors.

Like the vase in the thumbnail in this video, which has purple, pink, and white.

She’s using the white first.

Supplies Needed:

clear glass vase or large drinking glass

glitter: 3 colors of your choice; the lightest color needs to be the chunky glitter. The other two should be extra-fine glitter.

You can choose to get three ombre colors OR three totally different ones. It’s up to you how you want it to look. The first color you will need more of is white because it covers the whole vase. The second color covers only half of the vase. And the third color covers even less than 1/4 of the vase.

clear acrylic spray

small plastic cup

small foam paint brush

sheets of paper to catch the glitter and put back in to the jar

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1:

Pour some Mod Podge glue into the plastic cup and add just enough water to help it spread on the vase easily. Cover the whole glass with Mod Podge using the foam brush. Apply a thin, even layer.

Step 2:

Working over a piece of paper, pour the first color gently over the vase, covering the glue.

After covering the vase that way, you can scoot the glitter together and roll the vase in the glitter to make sure that it is completely covered.

Let it completely dry for half an hour to an hour.

Pour the excess glitter back into the glitter jar.

Step 3:

Apply glue to the bottom half of the vase. Use a light dab with the glue so as not to remove the first glitter.

There is no need to keep it exactly in an even line halfway up the vase. In fact, she states that it looks better if it is not straight.

Lightly sprinkle the second glitter on the glue area. Make sure to cover it completely. Do NOT roll it like we did with the first glitter.

Let it completely dry for half an hour to an hour.

Pour the excess glitter back into the glitter jar.

Step 4:

Apply glue to the bottom 1/4 of the vase. Again, use a light dab with the glue so as not to remove the second glitter.

Lightly sprinkle the third glitter on the glue area. Cover completely. No rolling. 🙂

Let it completely dry for half an hour to an hour.

Pour the excess glitter back into the glitter jar.

Step 5:

Spray with clear acrylic spray.

Of course, these vases are perfect for holidays but can be used around the house every day.

White, silver, and gold would go with that type of décor.

Different colors would give any area a splash of much-needed color.

Get small glasses and use them as candle holders.

You can also use just 2 colors of glitter OR 4 or 5 colors for a larger vase.

Our imagination can think of a lot of ways to make and use these.

Take care!
