Best Lightweight Cordless Leaf Blower

After two days of raking leaves and no end in sight, I decided to look for the best lightweight cordless leaf blower I could find. While researching, I discovered more reasons people use them: getting snow off their sidewalks and drying their cars.

I didn’t know you could do that. Not that I would want to. Snow is rare where I live and I don’t have a fancy enough car to put in that kind of effort. I was just looking for one that wasn’t heavy and I wouldn’t get tangled up in.

First I had to decide on the one you hold in your hand, on your back or one that rolls on the ground. Even though price isn’t the only criteria, I didn’t choose the wheeled one or the back pack. They average more expensive and I will not be working more than an hour at a time.

After all, it’s my yard, I can take long breaks when I want. If you are doing yards for others or you are pressed for time when doing your own yard, you might want a back pack one.

Second, I needed to decide on the power source: battery or gasoline. Gasoline would make it a little heavier, but I was okay with that. I felt it would be better than battery for power and longer lasting. My thinking is that a battery would run down before I finished my work.

So I looked into gasoline powered. The reviews looked great, but I always look at the 1 star to find out if there was something I was overlooking.

And there was. I’m not a person who just returns things for no reason. Probably like a lot of people. Just too much trouble. If I’m spending over a certain amount of money, I like to know that if I buy something, it is covered under warranty or has a guarantee. Especially for machines or computers.

For gasoline powered items, Amazon is not able to accept returns by mail (by law) because of gasoline still in tanks. So the warranty goes only to the manufacturer. Which for the same reason, it cannot go in the mail, so you have to drive there. Some warranty places are too far away. So I choose not to deal with gasoline powered units. So battery powered it is.

Here are the things I felt were important for a leaf blower:

Weight – (Funny, but this ended up NOT being too important because none of them were heavy enough to bother me.)

Time to charge battery – (A big difference among them. Ninety minutes to 5 hours. If you have to get your work done fast, decide if you need 2 batteries so one can be charging at all times. For me, the 90 minute battery recharge time means I take a 90 minute break. :))

Run time – (with fully charged battery)

CFM – (Cubic Feet per Minute – measure of air volume moved by the blower)

MPH – (speed of air coming out of nozzle)

Battery voltage

Battery and charger included?

Below are my favorites after much reading and checking out.

Best Lightweight Cordless Leaf Blower

Lightweight Leaf Blower With Battery And Charger

  • Weight: 8.4 lbs.
  • Time to charge battery: 60 minutes
  • Run time: 10 minutes (at highest speed) to 60 minutes (at lowest speed)
  • CFM: up to 480 cfm (due to variable speed)
  • MPH: up to 150 mph (variable speed)
  • Battery voltage: 40V
  • Battery and charger included?: yes

The T90 battery you get with this unit will save you money by buying a “bare tool” (without battery) from any of the other Toro PowerPlex tools. They sell weedeaters. And they come in the pretty matching red. 🙂

Amazon rating is 3.9 out of 5 stars.

Cordless Lightweight Debris And Leaf Blower

Cordless Lightweight Debris And Leaf Blower

  • Weight: 8.9 lbs.
  • Time to charge battery: 30 minutes
  • Run time: up to 70 minutes
  • CFM: up to 500 cfm (due to variable speed)
  • MPH: up to 125 mph (variable speed)
  • Battery voltage: 80V
  • Battery and charger included?: yes

Rating on Amazon is 4.4 out of 5 stars. If you set it on high, it will only run about 15 to 20 minutes. But many reviewers stated that this blower has a lot of power at the lower and medium settings and didn’t need to use the high setting very much. Hence, the manufacturer’s claim for “up to 70 minutes.”

Professional Grade Cordless Handheld Leaf Blower

Professional Grade Cordless Handheld Leaf Blower

  • Weight: 11.9 lbs.
  • Time to charge battery: 90 minutes
  • Run time: I could only find information from reviewers: “battery lasts about 40-45 minutes on continuous high-power use” and “battery life is very good for my application and better than expected.”
  • CFM: up to 450 cfm (due to variable speed)
  • MPH: up to 100 mph (variable speed)
  • Battery voltage: 18V
  • Battery and charger included?: yes

This is a professional grade product and is part of a platform of over 125 tools. The battery is not a normal 18V and therefore not interchangeable with a different brand’s battery. The charger is a rapid charger that is unique to this manufacturer’s platform of tools. Clears debris 15 feet away.

With only 10 reviewers, it has at 4.9 out of 5 star rating. The one who gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 star admitted that he did not use the 18 volt battery and used a 5 volt instead. One of the 5 star reviewers called it a “portable hurricane.” 🙂

Best Lightweight Cordless Leaf Jet Blower

Best Lightweight Cordless Leaf Jet Blower

  • Weight: 10 lbs.
  • Time to charge battery: 30 minutes
  • Run time: up to 22 minutes on highest speed
  • CFM: up to 580 cfm (due to variable speed)
  • MPH: up to 145 mph (variable speed)
  • Battery voltage: 80V
  • Battery and charger included?: yes

Rating on Amazon is 4.2 out of 5 stars. Reviewers stated “power and run times are amazing for a battery operated unit” and “use the cruise control button mostly” and “turbo button must be held for greatest power, however, most purposes do not require full power.”

Best Battery Powered Leaf Blower

Best Battery Powered Leaf Blower

  • Weight: 9.7 lbs.
  • Time to charge battery: 60 minutes
  • Run time: 30 – 35 minutes
  • CFM: up to 400 cfm (due to variable speed)
  • MPH: up to 90 mph (variable speed)
  • Battery voltage: 20V
  • Battery and charger included?: yes

The manufacturer’s axial fan design is the reason that the air output is so much and the run time is longer.

This unit has an impressive 4.3 out of 5 star rating.
